Former Rukungiri Parliamentary Candidate Held over Fraud

Akanyijuka contested as an independent candidate but lost to Roland Mugume Kaginda of the Forum for Democratic Change.

A retired primary school teacher, Akanyijuka was arrested today in Rukungiri town for allegedly issuing fake appointment letters on behalf of Ministry of Education and Sports to teachers after convincing them to pay him one million shillings each.

According to police, Akanyijuka was promising the teachers that after paying the money and filling the forms, they will be considered on Government payroll.

Richard Emuna,the Rukungiri District Police Commander says that Akanyijuka was arrested after receiving similar complaints from three teachers.

Emuna says that police has already kicked off the investigations into the matter.

Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for Kigezi region says that the suspect will appear in court to answer the charges accordingly.

The case is registered under file number CRB1942/2016 at Rukungiri Police Station where the suspect is being held.
