Police in Luwero district have arrested four people for murder following a land dispute.
Margaret Nakiyingi aged 50 years a resident of Wampamba zone in Wobulenzi town council was found beheaded on Wednesday at around 8:20 pm. Nakiyingi has been staying alone and selling waragi a local brew at her home.
It was reported that the killer found Nakiyingi sitting at her home watching a video on the phone before he beheaded her using a panga and died shortly after.
Police transferred the dead body to Luwero Hospital and embarked on an investigation into the gruesome murder.
The Panga used in the murder was recovered and exhibited.
According to Savannah Police Spokesperson, Sam Twineamazima the Police with the help of residents have managed to arrest four suspects after preliminary investigations indicated that she could have been killed due to a land wrangle within the family.
Twineamazima has identified the suspects as Sarah Nakatudde Nampa aged 60 years a resident of Kigulu zone in Wobulenzi and sister to the deceased whom they were wrangling over a five-acre piece of land located at Namasujju village in Nakaseke district.
Nakatudde has been arrested together with her son Herbert Mwebaze aged 36 a resident of the same zone and Iraq returnee who is accused of beheading Nakiyingi.
Others arrested are Nicholas Mulindwa aged 23 years who is also a resident of Kigulu and Lubega Mwesigwa a resident of Kasangombe village in Nakaseke district.
The suspect has been transferred to Luwero Central Police Station to face charges of murder and help in further investigations into the incident.
Luwero and Nakaseke districts are hotbeds for land conflicts as well as homicide cases.
In 2023, the Police registered 90 homicide cases in Luwero district and ranked with the highest number of cases across the country. Luwero also registered the highest cases of malicious damage to property with 206 cases reported in the year and related to land.
The district also registered 125 cases of criminal trespass and ranked in 12th position among areas with the highest number of cases across the country.
