The suspects have been identified as Samuel Mukisa alias Big Spender, Asuman Sempiira, Denis Barigye alias Kawalata and John Justus Turinawe. They were all arrested from Igayaza Town Council in Kakumiro during an intelligence-led operation on Saturday and Sunday.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson confirmed the arrest and detention of the four suspected robbers to URN.
Four notorious car robbers have been arrested during joint operations conducted by the police, Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF and Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence in Kakumiro
district.
The suspects have been identified as
Samuel Mukisa alias Big Spender, Asuman Sempiira, Denis Barigye alias Kawalata
and John Justus Turinawe. They were all arrested from Igayaza Town Council in
Kakumiro during an intelligence-led operation conducted on Saturday
and Sunday.
They were found with a stolen vehicle registration number UAW 045P, a Toyota Premio and a motorcycle cycle registration number UEF 711J.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says that after stealing the motor
vehicles, the suspects liaise with counterparts in Kampala, Wakiso and
Mukono to sell the stolen vehicles. He adds that the Police are currently hunting for the accomplices who are currently
on the run.
According to Hakiza, the suspects have been terrorizing residents in Kakumiro, Mubende, Hoima, Kibaale, Kagadi, Kyenjojo and
Kikuube robbing them of cars and motorcycles at gunpoint. However, security is yet to recover
the gun that the thugs have been using to terrorise the residents.
He says, that once investigations are
through, the suspected robbers who are currently being detained at Kakumiro Central Police Station will be arraigned before the court to be charged accordingly. Hakiza has appealed to members of the
public to provide vital information
that could lead to the arrest and detention of more suspects who are currently
at large.
Meanwhile, four suspects are in custody at
the Kagadi central police station over the alleged murder of a businessman. The suspects whose particulars
have been concealed by the police for fear of jeopardizing investigations
are believed to have connived to kill Christopher Nuwagaba
23, a resident of Kinaaba village in the Rugashali sub-county.
Information obtained by Uganda
Radio Network-URN indicates that the suspects reportedly raided the deceased’s
home, and beat him to death before they dumped his body in his compound on Monday night.
