Police are holding four people in connection to the fire that gutted the production office at Sironko District headquarters. Suwed Manshur, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson has only identified one of the suspects as Dr. Patrick Okori, the Sironko District Production Officer.

A staff at the district told URN on condition of anonymity that the other suspects are the Assistant production officer, an office attendant and secretary.  According to Manshur, the suspects were picked up to help police investigations into the incident. "They are going to record statements with police. There is some information police needs from them," he said.

He says they have not yet established the cause of the fire, which broke out in the production office at around 12:48am on Sunday. The fire destroyed documents, chairs, tables, generator, fridge and filing cabinets among other items.

A police officer, who declined to be named because he is not the police spokesperson, said the suspects will not be released until the Fisheries Officer, Entomologist Officer and Commercial officer show up at the police station for questioning.

The officers keep their documents and accountability in the production office and were destroyed by the fire. He also said they want the Fisheries officer to record a statement because he has been feuding with the production officer.

By the time of filing this story, police was still waiting for the three officers to record statements. Francis Andrew Oluka, the Sironko District Chief Administrative Officer, asked police to carry out investigations and get to the bottom of the matter.

Herbert Mulekwa, the Sironko District LC 5 Chairperson, says the production office has been the heart of the district since it kept a lot of records. He couldn't confirm or deny reports that some auditors were expected this morning at the district headquarters.

According to Mulekwa, they resolved last month to tighten security at the district headquarters following several break-ins but this wasn't implemented.
