Police in Kabale district have arrested four students of Kigezi College Butobere for participating for assault.

Those arrested include senior four students Joel Kato (18), Timothy Agaba and senior six students Bed Namara (19) and Rosbert Akantorana.

The arrest comes shortly after a group of 180 students, all senior four and six candidates, were handed an indefinite suspension as the administration considers their fate.

According to police the four students face charges of assault.

The students are accused of assaulting Haruna Ndabomuntu, a teacher, on June 3, 2013. The assault committed at around 9:00pm left the teacher in coma.

The group of students are also said to have stolen and destroyed household property belonging to another teacher at the school one Eliab Tumushabe.

Tumushabe had recently been transferred to Kigezi College Butobere from Ntare School.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional Police commander, says that police expects to make more arrests as they are following up ringleaders of the strike. Police is looking for 16 other students.

The case is registered under CRB: 1684/2013 at Kabale Central Police Station.

Maate says that the police will not tolerate such indiscipline and if students have complaints should find peaceful means of voicing them.
