FUFA Drum: Lango Province Fined UGX 13M Over Irregularities

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations-FUFA has slapped a 13 million Shillings fine on Lango province football team over irregularities. The fine was sanctioned by the FUFA Disciplinary Panel.     

The team was fined Shillings 3 million after their fans broke the gate at Bishop’s SS Ground in Mukono on March 30th, 2019 during their opening match with Buganda providence.

Hussein Ahmed, the FUFA Communications Officer, says there was overwhelming evidence detailing how the fans of Lango Province under the FUFA Drum tournament broke the gate Bishop’s SS Ground to avoid paying entrance fees of Shillings 5000.  

  He says the team has been fined Shillings 10million for waving off the entrance fee at Uganda Technical Play ground during their encounter with Ankole province a fortnight ago.    

According to Hussein, the decision by team to scrap the entrance fee was illegal, since it doesn’t have the authority to do so.

Prior to announcing the fines, FUFA summoned Geoffrey Omara, the chairperson of Lango Province to FUFA House in Kampala to explain their decision.  

The fine is to help FUFA to cover expensed incurred by the visiting teams and other activities including ticket printing. 

Aron Lallah, the Lango Province General Secretary, says they have been informed about the fine and will soon meet to decide their next course of action.  

  Daniel Moi, the Lango Province Spokesperson, says the team is yet to decide whether or not to appeal against the fine. The decision has triggered bitter reactions among soccer lovers in the region.    

Boniface Otim, a resident of Adyel Division, said the fines will discourage the fans of Lango Province team. He says the province should be forgiven and warned against illegal behavior.

Lango Province is due to interface with Sebei Province team on May 11th, 2019 at the Uganda Technical College Grounds in Lira town.
