General Court Martial Tries Soldier Over Gulu Shootings

The Uganda People's Defense Forces-UPDF General Court Martial has started trying a soldier accused of killing three people and injuring another at a Pub in Gulu Town. Lance Corporal, Geoffrey Odaga faces three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and aggravated robbery.

He is accused of opening fire at revelers at Smiling Panda 2, a local pub in Key I A village in Kabedo Opong parish in Bar Dege Division on Sunday killing  Sunday Ouma, the proprietor of the pub, Frank Yasin, a resident and Richard Denis Ochen, the former organizing secretary of Democratic Party in Gulu district.

 

One of the revelers, Jimmy Ojok escaped with injuries and is admitted at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital. The court is chaired by Lt. Gen. Andrew Guti, the chairman of the UPDF General Court Martial at Gulu District Council Hall. Residents have jammed the council chambers to witness the trial.
