Musinga Christian Nursing School and Faith Nursing Home in Ntungamo have been closed for operating illegally.  Operatives from the State House Medicine and Health service delivery Monitoring Unit ordered the schools closed yesterday, after they were operating without authorisation.

The team also arrested Francis Kamugisha, the proprietor of Musinga Christian nursing school and his principal Morris Asiimwe and handed them over at Ntungamo police station for further investigations. Edgar Nyabongo, Ntungamo District Police Commander says that police is hunting for other officials of the affected schools for questioning.

Nyabongo says that the suspects are wanted for operating illegal nursing schools. He says that Kamugisha and Asiimwe are facing charges of operating the institution without a license and using unqualified people to train students.

Asiimwe, who has been the principal of Musinga Christian Nursing School, is a grade V teacher. 70 students had enrolled at the school for training as nursing assistants. Gloria Kimuli Seruwagi, the state house medicines and health service delivery monitoring unit in charged of Western region says that they were prompted to mount the operation after finding nurses in government hospitals who could not write their names.

Kimuli says that they were shocked when they went over the notes and the materials that were being used at the closed institutions where some of the nurses were trained. She says that the institutes neither had qualified lecturers nor laboratories. Kamuli says that on top of operating illegally, the proprietors of the institutes have been charging parents exorbitant fees yet they don’t offer their students with any legitimate academic transcripts.
