Gov't to Construct UGX 70 Million Bridge in Kikuube

Government has embarked on the long awaited reconstruction of Rotohah Bridge in Kaseeta parish Kabwoya Sub County Kikuube district. The bridge, which connects Ndongo and Nyanseke villages in Kaseeta parish to Kabaale parish, collapsed five years ago.

 

 

On Saturday, the Samuel Kisembo, the Hoima Resident District Commissioner- RDC commissioned the bridge construction works valued at Shillings 70 million. He cautioned residents against theft of construction material, saying it will hinder progress of the works.

The Kikuube District Engineer, Emmanuel Arinaitwe assured the public that he will ensure close monitoring and supervision of the construction works to ensure value for money. He said the bridge construction works are expected to be completed by the end of January 2019.

Vincent Alpha Opio, the Kabwoya Sub county LC 5 councilor, says the collapse of the bridge affected hundreds of pupils from Ndongo, Kaseeta, Ngemwa and Lyatal villages who were using it to cross to Kaseeta primary school. He says close to 300 pupils were forced to drop out of school simply because they couldn't afford to cross the bridge more especially during the rainy season.

Murungi Balikenda, the Chairman LC 1 Nyanseke village says due to the collapse of the bridge, transportation of expectant mothers to the nearby Kaseeta Health Center II is difficult, adding that they are forced to sell off their produce at giveaway prices to middlemen since they can't access market centers.

Omuhereza Byeleta, a resident of Ndongo, says the delayed construction of the bridge has negatively impacted on them. He says at one time they lost a colleague who fell in the water and was swept away by running water.
