Gov't to Increase YLP, UWEP Funds

The State Minister of Gender and Culture Peace Mutuzo said that cabinet has already endorsed the resolution to increase the funding which is now awaiting parliament’s approval.

The State Minister of Gender and Culture Peace Mutuzo has revealed that government will increase the Youth Livelihood programme and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program fund from 72 Billion shillings to 107 Billion and 32 Billion shillings to 40 Billion respectively.       

The Minister was on Wednesday speaking as the Chief Guest at the international Family day celebrations held at Bubita Sub County in Bududa District under the theme “Peaceful Family a safe Environment for Child Growth and Development”.       

Mutuzo was responding to concerns raised by the Woman Member of Parliament of Bududa District who was requesting for an increment in the UWEP program to better the families in the district.      

She said that cabinet has already endorsed the resolution to increase the funding which is now awaiting parliament’s approval.

Mutuzo said that the increase of the funding will address the rampant unemployment rates in the country and also increase on the family income since the country is focusing on the middle-income status.

She also urged families to embrace peace and unity to foster development in the country. She also cautioned the youths against the forces of people power which she called baseless and non-productive.

Justine Khainza, the Women Member of Parliament Bududa says that the recurrent landslides have destabilized families and the increasing school dropout in the district.

Tappy Namulondo, the Bududa District Chief Administrative Officer decried the increasing number of school dropout and early marriages. She said this has caused instabilities in the families.

Innocent Byaruhanga, the assistant Commissioner of Family Affairs in the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development says that Bududa District was chosen to host the celebrations because of the calamities that have affected the people.
