Govt Vehicle Used to Smuggle Immature fish

A Kalangala District Local Gov't driver has been found with illegally harvested fish.

Kiwanuka Faisal was apprehended by the Fish Protection Unit (FPU) on Saturday along Masaka Bukakata road with over 3 bags of immature fish using Government car which was being smuggled to Masaka from Kalangala.  FPU suspect that even sometimes immature fish is smuggled in an ambulance from Kalangala to Masaka, a tendency that was increased during the lockdown.

Nsubuga Muhammad Salongo, the Greater  Masaka Regional Police Public Relations Officer has confirmed the arrest of Kiwanuka Faisal over smuggling of immature fish. 

"Kiwanuka Faisal is in our custody as investigation are going on," said Nsubuga. "He will be taken to court after compiling his file."

Nsubuga has also warned Government officials on abuse of office as they engage in breaking the laws that they will be arrested because no one is above the law.

Faisal was transporting over 3 bags of smoked immature fish in vehicle number UG 3169R assigned to the Kalangala District Chairperson. 

Kalangala District Chairperson Willy Lugoloobi has denied knowledge the act of using his car in smuggling immature Fish saying he is not aware about Faisal's programs despite being his driver. 

I have already handed over the vehicle to District since I'm a political candidate," he added.
