Gulu Based Music Artist on the Run for Organizing Illegal Rally

Bosmic, a self-proclaimed Co-coordinator for People Power in the North on Tuesday staged an illegal rally at Gulu Main Market to protest the endorsement of President Yoweri Museveni`s presidential sole candidature.

Police in Gulu are hunting for William Otim alias Bosmic Otim a renowned local pop-star for organizing an unlawful assembly.

Bosmic, a self-proclaimed Co-coordinator for People Power in the North and three others who are already in police custody on Tuesday staged an illegal rally at Gulu Main Market to protest the endorsement of President Yoweri Museveni`s presidential sole candidature.

The ruling National Resistance Movement - NRM legislators endorsed the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) resolution to allow President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni contest as sole candidate in the 2021 elections.

The rally which attracted hundreds of people ended prematurely after heavily armed policemen commanded by John Bosco Nyangkol the officer-in-charge of Gulu Central Police station fired live bullets and teargas to disperse the crowd.

A stampede ensued between the crowd and police who had arrested Bosmic and impounded a Canter Vehicle registration UBD 860 D, red ribbons and three loudspeakers.

 Three people identified as Christopher Ayella, Denis Bongomin and Moses Okello were arrested and detained at Gulu Central Police Station however the crowd hurled police with police and retrieved Bosmic from police and fled with him.

 Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson said they are still hunting for Bosmic and if arrested will be charged with unlawful assembly alongside the three under case number 32/04/06/2019.

An eyewitness, Kennedy Otim said the group were addressing the crowd that the NRM youth who endorsed Museveni`s sole candidature don’t represent the views of all youths.

Bosmic is known for being a long-time critic of President Museveni’s government.

He has also composed songs mocking high ranking official in government from Acholi and Lango sub-regions with latest being ‘’Mac Onywalo Buru’’ fire begets fire.

It is widely alleged the singer wants to aspire for the Kitgum Municipality Member of Parliament seat come 2021 which is being occupied Beatrice Atim Anywar.
