Gulu City Council is stuck following the decision by the contractor to abandon the construction site of the landfill in Pece –Laroo Division. Geomax Engineering Limited was undertaking the Shillings 3.5 billion projects funded by the German Development Bank and the German Corporation and supervised by FICTNER Water and Sanitation.
The work on the 7-acre piece of land in Agwee Ward commenced in June last year and was supposed to be completed in February this year. However, the city council extended the project to the end of June this year due to funding challenges.
The work has since stalled after the contractor abandoned the site. Alfred Okwonga, the Gulu City Mayor told URN in an interview that the contractor abandoned the site due to financial challenges.

He says the City Council will sit down with the funders and the contractor so that he is paid for the work done so far. Currently, the structures that include the proposed office blocks and store among others are halfway to completion.
Christo Balmoi Omara, the Gulu City Engineer, says that they are in the process of securing another contractor to complete the project so as not to lose funding.
