Gun Fingerprinting Kicks Off in Rwenzori West Region

Gun Fingerprinting in Rwenzori West region has kicked off at Fort Portal Police barracks grounds. 

According to Solomon Mugisa, the acting regional police spokesperson, the exercise is aimed at getting a database for every gun in the hands of the security companies and individuals. He says that fingerprinted guns that are misused will be easily be traced.   

Mugisa revealed that the activity, which started on Wednesday, will last four days. He explains that and they are targeting to fingerprint all guns that belong to police, Army, Security Companies and those owned individually.   

Rwenzori West region is comprised of Kabarole, Ntoroko, Bundibugyo, Bunyangabu, Kyenjojo and Kyegegwa districts.  He says they expect to fingerprint at least 770 guns.

In June 2018, President Yoweri Museveni ordered that all guns in Uganda be fingerprinted as part of a nine-point security master plan to address increasing killings and kidnaps in the country.
