The incident occurred around 8:50am today at Kasana township located within Luwero town council along Kampala Gulu highway.

Trouble started when boda boda riders got information that a stolen motorcycle had been tracked near Luwero hospital with two thieves riding it to the side of Nakasongola district. The motorcycle was allegedly stolen from Kawempe division and the thieves were riding it through Luwero town to an unknown destination.

Upon getting information that the thieves were in the town, motorcyclists followed the pursuit and spotted them at ELNA Petrol station where they stopped to refuel.

The suspected thieves attempted to flee but one identified as William Ogema was apprehended near Luwero Secondary and motorists started to beat him up. Another suspected thief identified only as Vincent managed to jump the school’s fence and fled.

Policemen from Kasana Police Station rushed to the scene and ordered the motorcyclists to surrender the suspect but these instead responded by throwing stones at the officers.

The Policemen later fired live bullets in the air to disperse the motorists before they got re-enforcement from Luwero Central Police Station to calm down the situation.

The motorcyclists said that they have resorted to lynching suspects because of increasing motorcycle robberies which have left some dead.

They also accused the Police of failure to prosecute suspects who rob the motorcycles.
