Unknown assailants have shot and injured Morish Obua, 22, a cane loader employed by Kinyara Sugar Works Limited in Masindi district. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, around 2:30 a.m. at Kihonda village in Labongo sub-county.

Reportedly, Obua, along with three other cane loaders, set out from Kinyara Sugar Factory to load sugar cane from Kihonda village. They were traveling in a company truck driven by David Abigaba. However, upon reaching Kihonda village, their vehicle experienced a mechanical fault, forcing the driver to stop.

As the driver inspected the vehicle, two individuals on a motorcycle approached and began firing bullets at them. Obua sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach while his colleagues fled. Despite lacking valuables, the motive behind the attack remains unclear, as noted by David Abigaba, the truck driver.

After the indiscriminate shooting, the assailants fled on the motorcycle. Obua was promptly transported to Kitara Medical Center in Masindi town, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.

Aldon Walukamba, the communications manager at Kinyara Sugar Works Limited, confirmed the incident and stated that the police were immediately notified.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, mentioned that a team of Flying Squad operatives has been deployed to apprehend the perpetrators and investigate the matter further.
