New Vision journalist, Tom Gwebayanga has filed assault case against Kamuli District Health Officer, Aggrey Batesaki.

It comes a day after Gwebayanga was on Tuesday evening arrested and locked up at Kamuli Central police station for allegedly spreading harmful propaganda against the Kamuli District Covid19 Task Force.

He was released on Wednesday afternoon. This morning, Gwebayanga claimed that Batesaki stormed the police counter and hit him with a metallic bottle twice on the head.

"The DHO took advantage of my incarceration and hit me twice on the head. He kept pushing me towards the table. Not even the police officers could save me from him," he said.

Gwebayanga told journalists that he developed a disturbing headache throughout the night and wants Batesaki to foot his medical bills.

However, in his statement Batesaki dismisses accusations of assaulting the journalist as baseless and aimed at ruining his reputation.

The Busoga North Region Police Spokesperson, Michael Kasadha confirmed the matter but declined to divulge details due to its sensitivity.
