New Vision journalist, Tom Gwebayanga has filed assault case
against Kamuli District Health Officer, Aggrey Batesaki.
It comes a day
after Gwebayanga was on Tuesday evening arrested and locked up at Kamuli Central
police station for allegedly spreading harmful propaganda against the Kamuli District
Covid19 Task Force.
was released on Wednesday afternoon. This morning, Gwebayanga claimed that Batesaki stormed the police counter and hit him
with a metallic bottle twice on the head.
"The DHO took advantage of my
incarceration and hit me twice on the head. He kept pushing me towards the
table. Not even the police officers could save me from him," he said.
Gwebayanga told journalists that he developed a disturbing
headache throughout the night and wants Batesaki to foot his medical bills.
However, in his statement Batesaki dismisses accusations of assaulting the
journalist as baseless and aimed at ruining his reputation.
North Region Police Spokesperson, Michael Kasadha confirmed the matter but
declined to divulge details due to its sensitivity.
