The only pit latrine at Hamurwa Health Center IV has filled up exposing patients to poor sanitation. Hamurwa Health Center IV had two pit latrines.

However, one of them was rendered unusable in 2013 leaving only one in operation but it is also full. The four stance pit latrine has also developed serious cracks leaving it at the verge of collapse.

The health center management has resorted to applying chemicals to reduce the fecal content.

Sylvia Atuhaire, a resident of Mpungu Parish in Hamurwa Sub County is currently attending to her sick mother at the health center. According to Atuhaire, both the patients and their attendants trek a long distance to use the toilet at Hamurwa sub county Headquarters.

Dr. Patrick Kabwiga, the officer in charge of Hamurwa health Centre IV says even the application of the chemical has not helped that much.

Cue out….it will work:”//

Kabwiga says management has written to the District leadership for possible action since they do not have funds to address the situation.

Albert Mastiko Mutungwire, Kabale Chief Administrative Officer says they have already set aside undisclosed amount of money to construct a four stance pit latrine at the health center to save the situation.

He says the works are likely to start by mid- September 2015 since the procurement Procedure has not kicked off.
