Amos Guma, the Katum Health Centre III Management Unit Committee Chairperson in Padibe Katum Sub County in Lamwo district is at large in connection to the disappearance of 33 iron sheets belonging to the facility.

Guma is alleged to have loaded the missing iron sheets on a truck in May this year, which transported them towards Padibe Town Council.

The health Centre in Charge, John Pacoto, says that the iron sheets were part of the building materials for the construction of a modern maternity ward at the facility by  3Ms International Limited whose contract, whose contract was terminated by the district because of shoddy work.

According to Pacoto, following the termination of the contract last year, they decided to transfer the building material to a nearby community store where the iron sheets went missing from.

Joel Opoka, the Katum East Village LC I Chairperson says that after getting complaints of theft from the residents on Tuesday he followed up the matter and discovered the stolen iron sheets hidden in the house belonging to Oscar Abitat, a resident of Padibe Town Council.

He says that upon interrogation, Abitat pinned Guma and his accomplice identified as Sam Okot, saying that they sold him the iron sheets at Shillings 800,000 after convincing him that it was part of the surplus material from a project they had undertaken.

Opoka says that they have since recovered the 33 iron sheets and ordered the accused to compensate the unsuspecting buyer  935,000 Shillings he spent on buying and transporting the sheets. Okot has since paid Shillings 600,000 to Abitat and pledged to clear the remaining 335,000 Shillings upon ascertaining the whereabouts of Guma.

The Lamwo Resident District Commissioner, James Nabinson Kidega has condemned the incident, saying it was unpatriotic for the accused person to steal instead of protecting public property.

According to Kidega, he has since called for the immediate impeachment of the school management committee chairperson from office. He says police have commenced investigations into the matter as the hunt for Guma is ongoing.
