Vaccination centres in Kasese District have run out of covid-19 vaccine doses.

The district received more than 136,000 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in March for the 18 vaccination centres.

Dr Yusuf Baseke, the District Health Officer attributes the shortage to an increase in the uptake among the population and the surge in the number of covid-19 cases.

Baseke says they are already overwhelmed by the numbers of persons who are turning up for the first and second dose. He says the district has recorded 72 positive cases in the last two weeks.

Baseke however says they have already contacted the Ministry of Health on the shortage and they expect a response by Monday.

However, he is concerned that the spike in the numbers is a huge threat to the district health system.

The Deputy RDC Joshua Masereka said they are sensitizing the community to now adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures- SOPs.

He says security forces have also been instructed to monitor burials and weddings to ensure there is adherence to the SOPs.

Margret Biira a vendor at Kasinde market says the absence of vaccines at the health facilities could discourage many others from taking the jab.
