Anthony Egesa, the Busia Assistant Chief Administrative Officer told URN that the health workers failed to attend to Lillian Musasizi while in labor leading to the death of her child.
Three health workers in Busia district have
been interdicted for allegedly negligence of duty. They are Douglas Barasa, the Bulumbi Health Center
III In-Charge, Erumbi Dorantina and Evelyn Nyongesa, both nurses attached to
Bulumbi health center III.
The trio is accused of mishandling an expectant mother, which
led to the death of her baby. Anthony Egesa, the Busia Assistant
Chief Administrative Officer told URN that the health workers failed to attend
to Lillian Musasizi while in labor leading to the death of her child.
Egesa explains that they discovered that Musasizi
was meant to be given referral before the time of delivering but the nurses
insisted on handling her, which led to the death of her baby.
However, Dorantina Erumbi, one of the
interdicted nurses, says the baby died of some of other disease and not negligence
as alleged. Douglas Barasa, the Interdicted Health Center
in charge says that he had moved out for other health duties assigned to him by
his bosses when the incident happened.
Some residents interviewed by URN have welcomed
the interdiction of the health workers, saying they have been rude. Steven
Mayende, a resident of Buhumi village, says this is the second time for
midwifes after the facility to injure a baby in the labor room.

Gorret Namanda, an expectant mother told our reporter at the
facility that the mid-wives harass them whenever they go for antenatal care.
