Health Workers Strike Cripples Services at Kilembe Hospital

More than 30 Health workers at Kilembe Hospital have gone on strike protesting against non payment of their salaries.

The group comprising of mid-wives, enrolled nurses and laboratory attendants, claim they have not been paid for the last five months.

The strike which started last week has already crippled the health service system at the hospital.

When Uganda Radio Network visited Kilembe hospital on Sunday morning, several patients were visibly stranded and some looked on in pain with no remedy in sight.

A dampening stench engulfed the hospital wards and many beds were abandoned by patients who have fled the hospital to seek treatment elsewhere.

Poor patients who were not cared for, and could not go to private clinics have been forced to go home.

A meeting convened yesterday to find a solution yielded nothing spelling more doom for the patients.
