There is heightened police presence in
Kamwokya, a Kampala city suburb to stop the anticipated protests by People
Power supporters following the arrest of the Kyadondo East MP, Robert
Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine on Monday.
Police intercepted Kyagulanyi alongside several
other legislators at Kasangati on their way for the launch of his presidential consultative
meetings for alleged failure to comply with the Public Order Management Act-POMA
and some requirements set by the police force.
The politicians were locked up at Kasangati
police Station before they were later transferred to Nagalama police station
where they spent the entire day and were released late in the night. Police quickly deployed in Kamwokya, which is
home to Kyagulanyi’s Fire Base studio to prevent protests.
Residents have told
URN that the deployment started immediately after the arrest of Kasangati,
adding police patrolled all roads and inside Kamwokya Gheetos for the entire Monday
night. They decried the heavy police presence, saying he
deployment scares away their customers.
