Kabale High Court has dismissed a petition filed by Winifred Komuhangi Matsiko challenging the election of Betty Bamukwatsa Muzanira, the Rukungiri Woman Member of Parliament.

Matsiko, the National Resistance Movement- NRM party candidate lost to Muzanira of the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party in a by-election held in May.

In July, Matsiko petitioned the High Court arguing that the election was marred with irregularities and hooliganism orchestrated by members of the opposition.

Matsiko also accused Muzanira of using abusive language and hate-speech during campaign rallies when she alleged that she is a thief who does not qualify to be re-elected into parliament.

Matsiko also argued that her supporters were intimidated during the exercise.

On Friday, the Kabale High Court Judge, Justice Kawumi Kazibwe dismissed the petition saying that all the accusations and affidavits lacked merit.  Justice Kazibwe also ordered Matsiko to pay Muzanira all the costs.

Muzanira welcomed the ruling saying that all the accusations were baseless.  She also hailed court for separating the truth from lies.
