Hoima district local government has formed a School Management's Committee Chairperson's Forum with the aim of boasting primary school performance in the district. The Forum is expected to bring together chairpersons of school management committees in government aided primary schools in the district.
The forum is chaired by Shedrack Mwijakubi. Government aided primary schools implementing the Universal Primary Education in Hoima district have been trailing behind private schools in national examinations. James Mugenyi Mulindambura, the Hoima District Education Secretary, says they decided to form the Hoima District School Management Committee Chairperson's Forum so as to revamp academic standards in the area.
According to Mulindambura, it is shameful for the district, which has produced the finest brains in civil services and politics lagging behind other areas in the country in national exams. Last year, only 208 out the 4889 candidates presented by the district for PLE passed in division. Mulindambura says the forum will be tasked to revival open school days where they will invite role models to inspire learners.

He also says the forum will promote handwork and craft so as to skill learners who may not make it through academics.

The committee will report to the district education officer and work under the patronage of the LC 5 Chairperson. Richard Kyarisima the head teacher Buhiriji primary school in Kigorobya Sub County has welcomed the formation of the forum, saying it needs to work closely with school administrators to implement whatever programs it comes up with.
He wants the forum to petition government to welcome the welfare of teachers by constructing staff quarters in schools to allow them concentrate instead of commuting from town every morning. Joseph Kyomuhendo, the Inspector of school in charge of Buhaguzi County in Hoima district, says the establishment of the forum has been long overdue.
Kyomuhendo says there is chance to improve the education standards in the district provided parents adhere to whatever decisions the forum with make in as far as the education of their children is concerned.

The establishment of the Forum comes a few months after Hoima district council passed a resolution to allow government aided primary schools to levy manageable fees for remedial classes for primary seven candidates.
