Hoima Gets High Court

According to Justice Bamwine, Hoima high court will handle cases from Kagadi, Hoima, Buliisa and Kakumiro districts.

The Judiciary has elevated the Hoima Chief Magistrate's court has been elevated to high court. The Principal Judge, Yorokamu Bamwine disclosed the development on Tuesday at the Hoima chief Magistrates court.

 

He explained that the judiciary decided to elevate Masindi Chief Magistrate's court due to public demand and the case backlog in Bunyoro sub- region. According to Justice Bamwine, Hoima high court will handle cases from Kagadi, Hoima, Buliisa and Kakumiro districts.

 

 

He has tasked Hoima district leadership to provide land for the construction of the High court building, saying the judiciary is unable to buy land at the moment because of a financial squeeze.

 

 

Bamwine says construction will start as soon as the land is availed to them.

The Hoima Municipal Mayor, Mary Mugasa, said they will liaise with the district to avail land for the construction of the High court building.

 

 

She says Hoima district has been longing for a High court for a very long time to settle the over whelming cases since most people find it difficult to travel to Masindi high court.

Currently, cases from Hoima, Masindi, Buliisa, Kiryandongo, Kagadi, Kakumiro and Kibaale districts are handled by Masindi high court.
