Hoima Woman MP Harriet Businge Loses NRM Flag

Hoima Woman Member of Parliament Harriet Mugenyi Businge has lost her bid to contest for the same seat on the NRM ticket after she lost the Flag to her rival Beatrice Wembabazi.

Businge polled 12,877 votes while Wembabazi had 13,934 votes. the other contestant Juliet Kusiima came third with 484 votes, according to the results which were read by Hoima NRM Registrar Brian Mugenyi at Kitara secondary school tally centre.

Businge joined parliament after a hotly contested by-election held in September last year. She polled 33,301 votes beating Asinansi Nyakato of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who garnered 28,789 votes. The by-election was to fill a vacancy that came up after the then woman MP Tophace Kaahwa Byagira chose to represent the people of the newly created Kikuube district that was carved out of Hoima and became operational in July 2018.

Speaking briefly, after her victory, Wembabazi thanked the people of Hoima for seeing maturity and good leadership in her.

In Kigorobya County, David Karubanga, the state Minister for Public service retained the NRM Flag after garnering 8,901 votes against his closest rival Dr Gerald Kasigwa who got 5,394 votes. Karubanga attributes his victory to hard work by his agents and the excellent leadership he offered to the people of Kigorobya county.

In Bugahya county Pius Wakabi, the Incumbent MP Won the NRM flag beating three other candidates.

Wakabi garnered 20,843 votes, while Simon Peter Kinobe, the former President of the Uganda Law society came second with 6,664 votes. Yunus Mugabe came third with 3,470 votes while Patrick Musinguzi came last with 228 votes.

In the recently inaugurated Hoima City, Violet Kabasindi won her bid to contest for the City MP after garnering 9,092 votes.

Meanwhile Dr Joseph Ruyonga the former Hoima District Health Officer-DHO has won his bid to contest for Hoima West Division Parliamentary seat in Hoima City after he was declared the winner of the hotly contested NRM Primaries. He polled 3,911 votes followed by Ronald Tumusiime who polled 2,617 votes while Shem Byakagaba came third with 702 votes and Robert Byaruhanga came fourth with 616 votes.

In Hoima East Division, Jonard Asiimwe was declared the winner of the NRM Flag after he garnered 4,282 votes beating four other candidates. The other candidates are Doreen Mbabazi who came second after polling 1,661 votes, Jonah Byakutaga came third with 1,121 votes, Rev John Kitalibara polled 823 taking the fourth position while Samuel Tumusiime came last with 332 votes.

The NRM elections in Hoima were generally free and fair since there were no chaos and anomalies recorded in the district.
