The Defending Champions Express FC opened their title defense
under a shocking defeat by newly promoted Arua hill FC at Express’s home ground
Betway Mutesa II memorial stadium in Wankulukuku.
Although the home team looked the better side in almost the entire
game with threats from star forward Erick Kambale and Martin Kizza, their
efforts were not enough to help the hosts secure the opening victory.
Two goals from Robert Eseru and Rashid Kawawa from either
half were enough to help the visitors to sail past the Red Eagles in the opener.
Former Express player Alfred Aleku assisted in both goals.
Express FC Head coach Wasswa Bbosa said his opponents were
clean and used their chances well, and adds that he is going to back to the drawing
to rectify their mistakes ahead of their next game.
“What I think we have lost the game, this is a league what I
know we are going back to the drawing board and rectify our mistakes, we have
had several chances that would help us win the game but we didn’t use them
well,” Bbossa admitted.
Express FC Captain Enock Walusimbi said they failed to use their
chances and thus fell to the new comers, he however said he believes they will
come back stronger in their next match of the league.
//Cue in this is our …
Cue out: … that we can win”//
This becomes Arua Hill’s first victory in Uganda’s top league. In
their next game, Express will visit UPDF on 23rd of October 2021
while Arua Hill FC will host Onduparaka in a west Nile derby.

won their opening game against Bright stars 3-1 while Onduparaka held UPDF FC in
a one all goal draw.
