According to family members of some detained suspects who spoke to URN, some people claiming to be government officials hoodwinked area youth chairperson Kibirige Peter Clever of Bwaise I parish to mobilize youth that would attend a youth meeting at Club Whispers Kanyanya, saying that government wanted to register youths who would benefit from upcoming youth projects cash.
Families in Kawempe Division with people who were arrested for allegedly planning to disrupt President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony are crying out to the government to free their people, saying they are victims who were conned to attend a youth wealth creation meeting and were instead arrested.
Over the weekend, security agencies arrested hundreds of people who were accused of harboring intentions of antagonizing the swearing-in ceremony of President Museveni that took place on Wednesday attended by over 4,000 invited local and international people at Kololo grounds in Kampala.
The operations were carried out by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence –CMI, Crime Intelligence –CI and Special Forces Command forces, the operations were mostly carried out in Kampala Metropolitan areas.
In Kawempe Division, most of the suspects were picked on Sunday in Bwaise parish I zones of Bishop Mukwaya I , Lule zone, Kiyindi zone and Kalerwe zones respectively.
But apparently, some opportunistic conmen/informers hoodwinked hungry/jobless youth into gathering at particular place to be registered for benefitting from wealth creation projects but instead sold them as troublemakers plotting to swear in Bbi Wine as president and/or disrupt President Yoweri Museveni swearing at Kololo. If this claim by the victims'/suspects' families is true, then the informers succeeded in conning both security into wasting time and resources apprehending innocent people and the victims into losing their freedom.
According to family members of some detained suspects who spoke to URN, unknown people claiming to be government officials hoodwinked area youth chairperson Peter Clever Kibirige of Bwaise I parish to mobilize youth that would attend a youth meeting at Club-whispers Kanyanya saying that government wanted to register youth groups that would benefit in coming youth projects money.
Hannifer Hayati, wife to Clever Peter Kibirige, said her husband told her that the meeting was to be attended by around 150 youth from different zones he had mobilized. However, the meeting did not happen but instead, military personnel raided the night club and all people who had arrived were arrested on the Sunday afternoon.
It is hard to believe that any organiser of a clandestine plot would gather such a large group of people in a public place to issue instruction of how to subvert the state.
“My husband did not return home on the same day nor did all his friends he had mobilized from different zones," says Hannifer. "The next morning we got information the army and police arrested all of them, on charges of committing treason by organizing a parallel swearing-in of Robert Kyagulanyi.”
A mother of four, with tears rolling down her face, Hannifer said they have searched everywhere since Monday in all police stations of Kawempe, Wandegeya, and Central Police station but all in vain.

He said only survived because he was was sickness with malaria and typhoid that hit him badly on the fateful day.
He explained that at several police stations they visited in search, they were told to stop searching because their people were to be released after the swearing-in on Wednesday, but no one has been released.
