The Ngora County Member of Parliament, David Bala is accusing the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola of misinforming the Internal Affairs and Human Rights Committee of parliament about the state of Ngora Central Police Station.

According to Bala, while appearing before the Internal Affairs and Human Rights Committee in parliament in May this year, Ochola claimed that they had built several police stations in the 2017/2018 financial year including Ngora Central Police Station.

However, Bala dismisses the claim as false, saying the IGP misinformed parliament, since Ngora Central Police station operates in dilapidated structures.

"I just wonder who could have deceived and duped the IGP. Uganda Police Force has not built any new facility in my constituency" Abala told URN on phone.

He promised to take up the matter with Internal Affairs Minister, Gen Jeje Odongo, saying the officers operate in dilapidated structures.

“The district engineer should act swiftly and even condemn the dilapidated structures that police operates from in Ngora. The structures were donated by the district when it was curved out of Kumi,” he said.

Abala's outburst stems from the state of structures where female inmates are held at the police station. The building has developed visible structures putting the lives of suspects at risk.

Michael Odongo, the East Kyoga Region police spokesperson, says they have already written to the police headquarters seeking permission to rent new premises.
