Ikumbya Health Center III has been closed after five workers tested positive for covid-19.

The health workers who have been quarantined at the Kiyunga health center IV isolation center are attached to the general wards and emergency unit.

The Luuka district health officer, Christopher Wandira says that the maternity ward and laboratory will remain operational, however, members of the public have been advised to seek medical services from the lower health center IIs or Kiyunga health center IV.

He adds that they have contacted the ministry of health officials to ensure that, the facility is well fumigated to reduce chances of further covid1-9 spread at the health unit.

Pamela Watuwa, the Luuka Resident District Commissioner who doubles as the taskforce chairperson says that health workers lack enough personal protective equipment- PPEs which exposes them to community infections.

Watuwa further stresses that there has been laxity in the community adherence to the ministry of health standard operating procedures in the control of covid19 as most of them have continued to organize unregulated campaign meetings without wearing face masks or observing physical distancing.
