Four people are nursing injuries following an attack by suspected iron bar hitmen in Katabi town council in Entebbe Municipality on Sunday night.

Police have identified the iron bar victims as Ibrahim Kasasa, Alex Kityo, Kassim Ssenkubuge and Alfred Sseguya, all residents of Kabaale.

Kassim Ssenkubuge told URN on his sick bed at Entebbe Grade B Hospital that the attackers position themselves in dark spots where they pounce on their victims and rob them of their property.

“The problem we have is that most people don’t switch on security lights after midnight. Thieves use such an opportunity to attack all people who pass by to steal,” Ssenkubuge said.

There has been a spate of killings in Entebbe municipality and Katabi town council in the past six months. More than 12 people have been killed.

Police say the killings are a result of domestic violence, theft and road accidents.

Entebbe Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Noor Njuki says the combined deployment of the military and police in Entebbe has failed to reduce crime.

Njuki says there is need to invest in human intelligence to allow police to use all available means curb crime.

Earlier this year, Kabaale the Local Council area committee proposed that each household pays Shillings 20,000 for security monitoring by the area defense committee.

However, Njuki rejected the proposal.
