Isingiro district has
secured Shillings 500 million
under the Agriculture Cluster Development Project (ACDP) to construct a new bridge on river Rwizi.
It will replace the
old wooden bridge that used to connect between Mbarara and Isingiro districts and was washed away by
rains forcing residents to cross through the river.
Isingiro district has contracted Net
world contractors Ltd, which has already
produced a design and is expected to deliver the project within six months.
The proposed suspension footbridge will give quick access to people from Masha Sub County and Mbarara City South
Division with the construction of the
13 KM Kabaare – Karugangama – Rukuuba – Ekikoona Road.
Martin Paul Yiga, the Isingiro Deputy Chief Administrative Officer,
says that the new bridge will strictly be for pedestrians and riders not exceeding 500 tons.

Abu Lubega, the LC One chairperson of Karubanda cell, says currently residents use a longer route to get to Mbarara with their products, arguing that the construction of the bridge
will be a big relief.
Apparently, the residents spend between Shillings 5000
and 7000 to connect to Mbarara, which is expected to drop to between
Shillings 2000
and 3000.
