Resident of Isingiro on Monday  raided a check point mounted by the police at Kagogo in Ruborogota Sub County accusing the officers of using it to extort money from locals.

The residents led by the Isingiro district local council chairperson Jeremiah Kamurali and other local leaders arrived at the check-point located along Isingiro –Ruborogota –Ntungamo road and confiscated the metallic barriers.

The road block located on a busy road used by traders from Ntungamo, Isingiro and those from Rwanda was put in place at the time when the district was under quarantine on movement of animals. Locals now say that it has instead been turned into a point for cheating especially those involved in business.

Ruborogota Local council three chairperson Robert Seguya says that the police check-point had  been put in place to restrict the movement of livestock at the time when the district was under a quarantine due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease.

He says that it is no longer relevant.

Kamurali, the district chairperson told URN that the check-point  had brought suffering to the people since it was being used for the wrong purpose. Kamurali revealed that the decision to remove the barriers is aimed at restoring sanity in the area.
