James Kubeketerya Retains Bunya East Parliamentary Seat

Majegere petitioned the court on grounds that Kubeketerya's camp was involved in the intimidation of voters and voter bribery, which enabled him to illegally win the election.
The High Court in Jinja has dismissed with costs, an election petition filed against Bunya East Member of Parliament James Kubeketerya.

Kubeketerya was declared the Bunya East parliamentary representative after garnering 16,641 votes, defeating Waira Majegere who polled 10,250 votes. But Majegere petitioned the court on grounds that  Kubeketerya's camp was involved in the intimidation of voters and voter bribery, which enabled him to illegally win the election.

However, High Court Judge Issa Sserunkuma, in a judgement delivered through email on Monday stated that Majegere failed to furnish the court with the necessary evidence in support of his allegations. Sserunkuma directed Majegere to pay all the costs incurred by Kubeketerya and his lawyers throughout the execution of the election petition.

Majegere has expressed dissatisfaction with the court's decision claiming that he was never accorded enough space to be heard throughout the dispensation of the election petition. But Kubeketerya appealed to the electorate to unite for better service delivery, rather than focusing on divisive politics.
