An Ambulance donated by the Japanese Government
Kisoro Hospital has received a brand new ambulance registration number UBD 499V thanks to the government of Japan.

The Japanese Ambassador to Uganda, Kazuaki Kameda handed over the ambulance to Michael Baganizi, the Kisoro Hospital Medical Superintendent on Tuesday morning in the presence of the LC V Chairperson, Abel Bizimana.

He explained that the donation was in response to frequent pleas by Kisoro district authorities over transport shortfalls at the hospital.

The Hospital, which serves patients from Kisoro, Rubanda and the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, has been struggling to provide outreach services due to lack of transport.

The two vehicles belonging to the hospital a Toyoto Land Cruiser registration number UG 1707M and Double Cabin Pickup registration number UG 2966M broke down in 2015 and have never been repaired due to lack of funds.

While receiving the ambulance, Michael Baganizi, the Medical Superintendent Kisoro hospital, said they have been finding a challenge to conduct  health outreaches and mass sensitization due to lack of transport.

He says they have also been finding a nightmare to handle patients referred to bigger hospitals like Kabale and Mbarara Regional Referral Hospitals and would end up asking their attendants to meet the costs of hiring private vehicles.

The Kisoro District Chairman, Abel Bizimana hailed the Japanese government for the kind gesture in helping resolve the transport problem at the hospital. He appealed to the Japanese government to help the hospital with beds.
