Candidates in Jinja City who participated in the Mayoral and councillorship race are concerned about the delayed declaration of results. The vote tallying exercise resumed on Wednesday night but by Thursday afternoon, the results were yet to be announced, raising tensions among the contestants.

Peter Kasolo, the National Unity Platform-NUP flag bearer in the Jinja City mayoral race says that the delays are creating suspicion of possible vote-rigging among candidates.

Kasolo further says that EC officials informed candidates on how they were to re-tally some polling stations with discrepancies, a decision he dismissed arguing that, declaration forms from himself and two other opposition candidates who include; Democratic party's Ivan Tibenkana and Forum for Democratic Change's Frank Nabwiso have the same number of electoral ballots cast save for National Resistance Movement’s-NRM Robert Kanusu.

He adds that such abrupt EC demands coupled with the heavy security deployment raises suspicion of plans to favour NRM sponsored candidates over the rest.

 Cue out…as per now.//

Twahir Damulira, a contestant for the councillorship position in Bugembe Ward in Jinja City says that security operatives and EC officials are holding different meetings without collectively addressing all aggrieved stakeholders.

He argues that such tendencies discredit the credibility of the electoral process since all stakeholders are not informed on the way forward.

Sherinah Kamya, another contestant vying for the Mafubira ward female councillorship position says that she has not rested since last night for fear of vote fraud in her absence.

 Cue out…what will happen,"//

Jennifer Kobutungi, the Jinja City returning officer, says that they suffered a system failure and lost all the data which had been captured during last night’s tally exercise, but she has tasked contestants to stay calm as they prepare to restore it.
