Four officials of Jinja district local government and municipality officials have been interdicted for involvement in numerous land scandals.

It is alleged that their troubles stem from the illegal giveaway of five hectares of land located on plot 24B along the Kyabazinga way in Mpumudde Kimaka division, Jinja Municipality.

The interdicted officials are, Robert Kitimbo, the municipal land surveyor, Jofram Waidhuba, the Jinja municipality deputy town clerk, and Fred Waiswa, the Jinja lands officer.

Last month, the officials appeared before the commission of inquiry into land matters in Kampala over giveaway of plot 24B but denied claims of unlawfully giving away the same land to Mangalal Patel.

Kitimbo allegedly forged minutes of Jinja district Land Board while serving as the secretary Jinja District Land board between July 2018 and January this year.

Kitimbo admitted guilt, saying he acted under extreme duress from members of the Land Board who had their personal interests.

He said the members exerted intense pressure on him to help businessman, Thummar Jay Mangnalal Patel obtain a freehold title over the land.

Richard Mbazira, the Jinja district secretary for production says that their interdiction was overdue.

"These names have been visible in numerous land scandals and we hope to attain sanity after their interdiction," he says.

William Kanyesigye, the Jinja Chief Administrative Officer says that they have embarked on internal investigations against some of their officials under interdiction but refused to divulge more details.
