Jinja DP Members Divided Over District Leadership Election

Democratic Party officials in Jinja are divided over the recent election of the district party leadership.

 

 

 

On Monday this week, a section of Democratic Party members in Jinja convened at Kakira town council Resort hotel for the elections of district party executive.

 

Key DP officials like the national party chairman Mohammed Baswari Kezaala and Musisi Kibugudhu who hail from the district skipped the polls.

 

 

Robert Brian Lukumbuka, the Jinja DP Returning Officer declared Frank Kyewalyanga unopposed as District DP chairperson.

 

While declaring the results,

Lukumbuka said the party was at its best to take on the countries leadership.

However, some party members have rejected the poll results saying the elections were conducted by a few party members. Ramathan Bazanya, the Jinja DP spokesperson says the elections contradict their party constitution.

Saulo Nsongambi, the outgoing Jinja District DP chairperson says he will only vacate office once genuine elections are held. Nsongambi has served for a five year term since he was elected in 2010.

 

 

Shortly after his election following the contested election, Frank Kyewanlyanga promised to build the party support in the district.
