Jinja High Court Nullifies Impeachment of Mayuge LC V Chairman

Muse Musimbi, the assistant Jinja High Court Registrar has issued an interim injunction nullifying the impeachment of Samuel Mulungi, Mayuge LC V chairman.

Musimbi issued the order on Friday, a day after councilors of Mayuge district impeached Mulungi for abuse of office.

The Councilors, led by Peter Tasibula Nkwanga moved a vote of no confidence in Mulungi accusing him of drawing two salaries as a teacher and LC V chairperson in breach of the local government finance act.

However, on Friday Musimbi issued an interim court order reinstating Mulungi to his office.

Musimbi argues that Mulungi will remain in office until high court disposes off a case in which he is accused of conflict on interest.

In April 2010, councilors of Mayuge district successively impeached Mulungi, but petitioned high court which reinstated him.

Mulungi became LC V in December 2009, when Bakali Ikoba Tigawalana, the Mayuge district chairman was convicted for murder.
