Jinja Hippos RFC faces off with Plascon mongers at Jinja rugby stadium on Saturday.
Jinja Hippos have strengthened their position in the national rugby league by defeating Entebbe based Plascon Mongers 24:12.

The game played at Jinja rugby stadium on Saturday left hippos with four points.

The highly intense match saw hippos' Timothy Mugisha earn his side 7 points whereas Andrew Olwenyi earned Mongers 5 points and the rest of the points from both teams were earned through penalties.

Mongers' captain, Elijah Kitooke says that his team has a lot of technical issues which cost them the match. “We lost our coach, Kigongo Ssebalamu early last week and this has led to a number of technical issues which left us without enough concentration to win the match, “he said.

Kitooke however, promised better results in next week's match against Walukuba Barbarians.

John Echeru, the Hippos team captain says that they played a system of wide and contact which helped them to earn more points compared to their counterparts.

“This game was very good for us because we discovered in first round that our opponents could not run very first, and decided to employ a system of wide and contact ball, hence wearing them out and making more attempts that earned us winning points,” he said.

Echeru adds that “we are working so hard for better results, and our target is to compete among the top five teams in the league this season.
