Justice Flavia Angelina Ssegona has set 1 and 2 December 2011 as the date for the Jinja District Woman MP election vote recount exercise. She made the ruling following a petition filed by Maureen Kyalya Walube, FDC candidate challenging the outcome of the February election.
Agnes Nabirye, the NRM candidate was declared elected. Walube dragged both Electoral Commission and Nabirye to court accusing them of conspiring to rob her of her victory. In her petition Nabirye argued that the polls were marred by vote rigging and voter bribery. She also accused electoral commission of using an unsigned declaration forms to declare Nabirye elected.
Through her lawyer, Mohammad Mbabazi, Walube asked court to order for a vote recount to prove her claims of ballot stuffing to pave way for fresh elections. Nabirye has welcomed the court decision for a vote recount saying it will set her off the trap set by her rival. Justice Flavia Angelina Ssegona took over the Jinja District Woman MP petition after Justice Eldad Mwangushya excused himself from the petition.
