The joint team of security forces have recovered five heads of cattle which were recently stolen by Karamojong cattle rustlers in Abim district.

The cattle rustlers stole the cattle on 4th May 2023 from the home of Martin Okello, a resident of Atyenlyec village in Ogwete sub county in Otuke District.

An operation to track down the animals was launched and on May 6th, 2023 the  the animals were recovered. The cattle rustlers were believed to be moving the stolen animals through Abim to Kotido district.

Major Isaac Oware, the 3rd Division Spokesperson said the raiders were cornered at Obolokome hill in Morulem town council where the animals were recovered although the rustlers managed to disappear into the bushes.

He added that the general security situation remains relatively calm and this recovery is attributed to the recent joint security forces settlement and intervention made by field commanders under the stewardship of Brig. Gen. Felix Busizoori, the 3rd deputy division commander.

Upon recovery, the animals were handed over by James Onyanga, the Mayor Morulem Town Council to the owner at the Town Council headquarters.

Recently, the UPDF 5th Division command asked the general community of Otuke to remain calm saying the security personnel are on ground to ensure that the cattle raiders do not invade their areas.
