Judiciary Transfers 43 Magistrates

Two senior principal magistrates; Charles Yeteise and Jessica Chemeri have been asked by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe to take on the extra responsibilities of Acting Chief Magistrates. They two are to fill up the vacant positions in the stations of Hoima and Moroto.
The Judiciary has transferred 43 Grade One Magistrates, a move aimed at filling up existing gaps left following the recent promotions.

Chief Registrar Paul Wolimbwa Gadenya says the objective of the transfers is to make sure that every district in this country has a magistrate. He added: “this has been done to make sure that a magistrate handles at least 400 cases in a year and has adequate time to do the work very well.”

“In the past we have had magistrates dealing with too many cases which results into hurried justice which sometimes does not work in favour of the litigants. So we have addressed that situation by aligning magistrates to workload and recruiting additional magistrates.”

Gadenya adds that another group of 57 new magistrates appointed in January by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), is expected be sworn-in on Friday and be deployed immediately.

In a related development, two senior principal magistrates; Charles Yeteise and Jessica Chemeri have been asked by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe to take on the extra responsibilities of Acting Chief Magistrates. They two are to fill up the vacant positions in the stations of Hoima and Moroto.
