A fuel tanker burning
The driver of a fuel tank which exploded in Kabale District has died.
Geoffrey Onyango, 34 succumbed to burns in his home country Kenya, police have confirmed. Onyango, a resident of Eldoret was driving a
Nissan semi-trailer fuel tanker registration number UAQ 912N/ SSD 351Y while
heading to Kabale from Mombasa in Kenya.
On reaching Kyanamira, the
tanker failed to negotiate a corner, rolled down and exploded. Rogers Onyango,
20, the turn boy and also a Kenyan national was burnt to ashes.
The driver was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral
Hospital with serious injuries and later evacuated to Kenya for better
treatment.
Elly Maate, Kigezi region police spokesperson said that Onyango died on
Tuesday. Maate also says that the remains of the turnboy are
still at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary as authorities wait for
relatives.
Last week, a fuel tank registration number UAM 292Q, from
Kampala heading to Gulu overturned and caught fire in Kigoogwa town, about 22
kilometres from Kampala city.
