Kalangala DPC Injured in Bar Fight

The Kalangala District Police Commander, Benon Byamukama is hospitalized after he sustained injuries during a fight in a bar.

Byamukama was hit on the head by some revellers whom he found in Mama Muwada's bar in Bugala Village, Kalangala town council at 2:00a.m.  The revellers became angry when Byamukama and the night patrol police officers told them that they had breached the presidential directive on the closure of bars to curtail the spread of covid-19.

The more than 20 revellers, argued with the police officers and in the process a scuffle ensured. As a result, Byamukama was hit on the head with broken bottles and then rushed to Kalangala Health Centre IV, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Seven of the revellers were arrested and taken to Kalangala police station, just 80 metres away from the bar.

Mohammad Nsubuga, the greater Masaka regional Police Spokesperson says that they are hunting for other revellers who are on the run.

According to Nsubuga, they are also hunting for the bar proprietor.
