Benjamin Matovu, the Kamwege town council LC IIII chairperson-elect, has died.

Matovu, who has been in intensive care unit at Mbarara regional referral hospital for three weeks, was pronounced dead at 3am on Saturday.

He had been admitted over a blood clot in the brain.

A family member who preferred anonymity told our reporter that for close to a month, Matovu's condition was only worsening despite the care he was getting from the doctors.

The deceased, who was an independent candidate but NRM-leaning, had defeated the incumbent chairperson, Geoffrey Byamukama, in the general elections.
