Fred Kyomukama, a special hire driver in Kihihi town council is to spend the next 15-years in jail for raping a traffic officer. Kyomukama was convicted on Wednesday by Justice Joseph Mulangira in Rukungiri high court after he found him guilty of rape. Prosecution led by Batson Baguma, the Rukungiri state attorney told court that on 14th May 2010 while in Kihihi town council, Kyomukama offered his victim a lift to the police barracks.

However, on their way to the police barracks Kyomukama branched off  and drove to a football pitch about three kilometers away, where he raped his victim. According to Baguma, the rape victim pleaded with Kyomukama to stop saying she was in her menstrual periods in vain. The victim whose identities have been withheld filed a case of rape against the suspect leading to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.

Baguma told court that the blood stains found on the suspect’s shirt and trousers submitted to the government chemist for examination matched with those on the pads of the victim. In his ruling Justice Mulangira says the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and therefore found the accused guilty of rape.

Justice Mulangira sentenced Kyomukama to 15 years in jail since he had spent four years on remand. He warned men against forcing women into sex without their consent saying it will always have serious consequences.
