Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Karamoja subregion have asked the government to prioritize the construction of security roads in the region.

The MPs pleaded with their colleague, the Minister of State for Works, Musa Ecweru to consider the roads that were recommended and compiled by the security teams in Karamoja for opening and construction.

Last year, the government commenced the construction of security roads in the Karamoja sub-region to ease the mobility of the security forces during operations against cattle theft. But out of 2,240 km of roads compiled by the security agencies in Karamoja, less than 200 have been worked on.

Sylvia Awas, the Nabilatuk District Woman MP says that access to the district has been frustrated by floods which have washed away bridges in some areas. According to Awas, the road network is key in addressing insecurity in Karamoja region.
