Kasese Catholic Diocese has halted the construction of a new modern Cathedral due to lack of funds. Construction of the 6.7 billion shillings cathedral started in 2014.

The Bishop of Kasese Diocese Francis Kibira says they have decided to put a stop on the construction works after failing to raise funds due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Bishop Kibira says the diocese was expecting contributions from special collections from Easter and honouring of pledges.

Bishop Kibira also says since the suspension of church services, they are facing difficulties in supporting catechists whose upkeep is derived from Sunday collections.

However, he says a few Christians have continued to support the diocese in various forms to keep the church work going.
